Google Bombing

Google bombing is a method to make a website rank for certain terms. By using anchor text you can bomb Google so that it will show a page in the SERPS(Search Engine Result Pages) even if the page does not contain the phrase. One of the most notable examples of this is searching for the term - miserable failure. At this time the #1 result is a link that points to the White House biography of President George Bush.

This was achieved by many sites pointing to this page with the same anchor text even though that term does not appear on the page. In most cases this will only work with less competitive key phrases.

The trick is possible because Google searches more than just the contents of web pages - it also counts how often a site is linked to, and with what words.
